Its Not Business as Usual

August 21, 2020

It is becoming clear that for quite some time, we will not be returning to what we previously knew as normal in the business sense. The effects of the precautions that we are (still) undertaking to reduce the spread of the Novel Coronavirus have been seen across all industries and business sizes alike. From your neighborhood cafe to your financial advisor, business operations are unrecognizable from the year prior. while all businesses are facing these concerns, I have had to face this ugly fact head-on working for a conference business. Before you mentally start to down the path of what must be done to "just get by" because of what can't be done and listing your own perfectly plausible excuses that we all have for the tightening of our economy and subsequently our businesses (as well as our own free will I might add), I would like to offer a different mentality.

A Shift Towards Innovation

Many think of innovation as a badge held only by technology giants and start-ups boasting the newest products or strategies. On the contrary, at its most fundamental level, it is a shift from the previously established ideas, methods and products. The same time-old concept has governed humanity's own existence and prosperity. Evolve to the current environment or become history (natural selection if you will). This approach can be applied to any business sector these days given our access to our clients (things that we all take for granted at times, especially in developed countries).

Ok, But How?

I'm sure you still have your doubts. "That's easier said than done, Adam." You're right. If it werent, it would not be deviating from what is established. At this point, you're probably asking yourself how to apply this to your business. While I can't go into every business case because of how far reaching this approach is, I can help you flush out your own applications to help you take your business to new level.

The Application

  • New access to clients (digital marketing)
  • New products or services in lieu of social distancing (offerings)
  • If you can't beat them, join them (taking strategies from other industries)
  • Lasting success (scaling / post covid)
  • Preparing for a return (prepare for success)

Your Turn

I'm sure you still have your doubts. "That's easier said than done, Adam." You're right. If it werent, it would not be deviating from what is established. At this point, you're probably asking yourself how to apply this to your business. While I can't go into every business case because of how far reaching this approach is, I can help you flush out your own applications to help you take your business to new level.
